Adhesive Weight Installation Guide from Perfect Equipment
1. Preliminary work |
2. Adjustment of weight |
3. Removal of the protective film |
4. Weight installation |
Ensure the weight, rim and ambience temperatures are at least 16 °C. Clean the wheel rims with a suitable cleaning agent to avoid grease and silicone residue on the rim (e.g. isopropanol 70%). |
Adjust the adhesive weight to the rim radius with the protective film. The radius of the weight body and the rim must be at least in parallel to each other. It is even better if the radius of the weight body is less than that of the rim. |
Remove the protective film from the adhesive tape after adjusting the weight to the rim radius. Do not touch the adhesive tape before attaching it to the wheel! |
Press the weight against the rim from the center toward the outer edge. The pressure should be at least 100 kpa. |
What is wheel assembly imbalance?
When made, wheels and tires inherently feature a heavy spot, or an imbalance. There are two types of imbalance:
Static Imbalance | Dynamic Imbalance |
---|
| |
Static imbalance is caused by a heavy-spot located on the circumference of an assembly and can cause wheel tramp, or a severe bouncing of the assembly when in motion | Dynamic imbalance is caused by a heavy-spot outside of the side-centerline of an assembly and can cause wheel shimmy, or a severe side-to-side staggering of the assembly when in motion |
